There is no better way to celebrate the end of a work week than with a cupcake or some banana pudding! As I walked along 49th street on this muggy afternoon, I eagerly approached my destination and this week’s Secret of SoCal.
Originally founded in 1996, Magnolia Bakery is an original favorite of every New Yorker, including my favorite fictional diva, Carrie Bradshaw! This boutique bakery originated in West Village and can now be found in Los Angeles, Chicago, Honolulu, Mexico City, Seoul, Tokyo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Beirut, Kuwait City and Doha. Even with the rapid growth over the years, Magnolia Bakery never lost its foundational values of baked goods, cozy decor, and that feeling of mom’s comforting kitchen.
While walking through the packed streets of New York City on a busy Saturday afternoon, I was surprised at how much of the pedestrian traffic flowed directly into the small bakery. However, the amount of people inside the bakery wasn’t nearly as distracting as the sweet smell of sugary icing and buttery cake batter. The most frustrating part of my experience at Magnolia Bakery was selecting what I wanted! Did I want to try the mouth-watering banana pudding? The crumbly cookies? The otherworldly cupcakes?
When I reached the front of the line, and after careful consideration, I opted for the Hummingbird Cupcake with ingredients of banana, pineapple, and pecan, and topped with cream cheese icing. Biting into the cupcake, through the layers of icing and cake, gave way to the perfect balance of moist and crumbly. It was worth every penny.
As I strolled along the sidewalk on this muggy afternoon in New York City, I wondered if I would ever eat another delicious cupcake from Magnolia Bakery. The answer is yes… mostly because Magnolia Bakery has international shipping…
