Monday was hard. Tuesday was even harder. Going about my daily routine was hardest. Why was this week so “hard,” you ask? Because I just returned from the most amazing weekend.
This week’s Secret of SoCal is the Hard Summer Music Festival.
Last weekend I spontaneously decided to go to the Hard Summer Music Festival held at the Pomona Fairplex. As my friends and I pulled up to the Pomona Fairplex in Kelsey’s mini van (shout out to Kelsey’s mom for letting us use it) it was obvious we were in the right location. All around us our fellow festival goers impatiently inched forward in their cars, dressed up in the craziest costumes and ready to have an amazing time.
When we finally arrived we did a quick check. Tickets? Check. ID’s? Check. Excessive amounts of water? Check. Best group of friends? Check. I was ready to have the time of my life.
The extreme heat and large masses of people didn’t stop anyone from enjoying themself because the music enlivened the mood. One of my favorite sets from day one was Odesza. When the stage crew brought out two sets of drums, the crowd went wild. Odesza played my all time favorite song, Say My Name, and put on a surreal, interactive show.
Being in close proximity to so many strangers was surprisingly fun, regardless of the intense heat. Practically every girl was consulting other girls regarding makeup checks and hair checks. Concert goers were sweaty and sticking to one another. However, there was something about loving the same genre or DJ that brought a lot of random attendees together.
Later in the evening of day one The Weeknd played. Although they were ten minutes late, Abel didn’t disappoint. Their set was super strong and I heard my favorite songs such as I Can’t Feel My Face, Earned It, and The Hills. The last set we saw that day was Dillon Francis. My favorite thing about Dillon Francis is the random, crazy graphics on the screen that coincide with the great music.
Day two was equally as breathtaking of an experience. My favorite set from day two was without a doubt Jack Ü. They were the most anticipated event of the entire festival as proven by the massive crowds that gathered around main stage. Skrillex and Diplo already knew that they are wildly popular and two of the most powerful DJs. Yet they still showed up with such a lively nature, ready to prove to all these fans that their show would be the best. Remixing Beyonce, Drake, and playing their own originals, the crowd danced the entire set.
OK, I’ll admit it. It was the end of day two and I was feeling hungry and tired. All of a sudden I heard every girl in the audience literally shrieking. Why? Because Justin Beiber came out to sing his hit Where Are U Now with Jack Ü. It was the best ending to any festival I have ever been to.
Being in the same vicinity with 130,000 different people wanting to bond over the same type of music was exhilarating. I am definitely going again next year and cant wait to see what Hard Summer has in store.
Check back next week for another Secret of SoCal.
And remember- Take Care of This Moment.
